Originally from Yorkshire, Clare Wardman is based in St Ives, Cornwall, and studied Fine Art at both Exeter College of Art and gained MFA Distinction from Falmouth University Graduate School. Her painted work is primarily abstract or abstracted forms, but she experiments with a wide variety of  mediums, prints, drawing and collage - including site specific works involving performance, moving images and sound. She refers to her visual art as an ‘expanded form’ of contemporary painting and much of her work focuses on the experience of audience interaction with it. The theme of time passing and repeated processes is explored in her work through the notion of ‘fragments’.

She paints in a studio shared with her partner, Iain Robertson - an internationally renowned abstract painter, who is also represented by The Art Hound Gallery. The walls and the painted spattered floors of their studio are steeped in art history as Clare and Iain occupy a space at the famous Porthmeor Studios, which have been occupied by acclaimed artists such as Sandra Blow, Ben Nicolson, Francis Bacon and Patrick Heron since the 1800s. Number 7 - where Clare works, which has an inspirational view of Porthmeor Beach, was once the studio of Julius Olsson, an influential maritime painter and part of the original St Ives School of artists at the turn of the 20th century.

Clare Wardman’s work has been exhibited at the Tate Gallery, St Ives, which included a series of works expressing and documenting the movement of sunlight in her studio and how it transformed the surfaces it touched. She has exhibited nationally and her work is held in major public collections.
