Sophie studied Fine Art at Manchester School of Art where she explored large scale abstract works on canvas, graduating in 2010. She moved to rural Devon and works from her studio at Kigbeare Galleries. The studio is set in its own woodlands on the edge of Dartmoor.
Since moving, the nature of Sophie’s paintings has come to reflect the dramatic landscape around her, with its ever changing skyscapes. Her works bring abstraction to the evocative landscape, and at the same time, give a recognisable shape to experimental colour, forms and brush strokes.
Sophie explains “I often walk and sketch on the moors, then try to recapture the all-encompassing beauty in larger pieces back at my studio. The changeable, moody landscapes awash with colour, horizons and the vast openness inspired me to explore the feeling of being in this environment, so to describe these works as landscapes would be to miss the essence of the places they strive to capture.”
Sophie has exhibited nationally, with her work in private collections across the globe. She has also worked on a number of public art commissions in Devon.
