ALAN GRABHAM

Born in Bedfordshire in 1960, Alan Grabham was raised in Yorkshire and the Midlands where he studied for a degree in Fine Art, graduating in 1983. In 1986 Alan moved to Cambridge and began his career as a professional artist. Initially he painted images of historical Cambridge in order to establish himself. His work was well-received and successful, and after a time he became more interested in a more abstract use of colour and form. He therefore began an exploratory series of abstract images using both painting and printmaking techniques.

In 1995 he joined St Barnabas Press creating work using Silkscreen, Etching and Relief Printing, and in 1999 he moved his studio from the bottom of his garden to the Press. Since then he has concentrated wholly on an exploration of the abstract and emotional aesthetic. Alan’s paintings embrace the human condition using colour in the abstract to illuminate an intense emotional experience of the world. His use of vibrant colours shifts the viewer to levels beyond the humdrum: we are pulled into a world of unbridled passions; of great beauty, of possibilities that in our mundane everyday living we are inclined to overlook.
Alan also works in collaboration with master printmaker Kip Gresham (The Print Studio, Cambridge) in creating works for some of the most highly regarded artists in the UK and internationally.
