  Alan Rogerson

Originally from Bromley, South London, Alan Rogerson started his career as a graffiti artist and then went onto to study illustration at Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge. His work is a heady mix of surrealist images, block colour, urban commentary and humour, with inspiration drawn from Medieval wood cuts and illustration, the dark side of fairy tales and the creatures that dwell within them, and 1970’s wallpaper patterns.

Alan often paints and draws to jazz music and connects his forms with the sounds - much like jazz his motifs appear random and sporadic on their own, but have harmony when placed together. He has developed his own language of personal iconography, with repeated figures and forms representing manipulated human heads, mythical beasts, an expanding universe and finally, Alan’s own face. This language of images allows Alan to produce comic books with no text or dialogue and his single pieces of work create for the viewer a unique story telling experience that they themselves conceive.

Alongside his drawing and painting, Alan works in the labour intensive medium of linocuts, printing them by hand in his studio. The Art Hound Gallery are delighted to offer limited edition linocut prints by Alan Rogerson which are exclusive to our gallery.
