Art Hound Note - This mugshot dates from 9 December 1978, when Vicious was charged with assault in New York after attacking Todd Smith, Patti Smith's brother. He was sent into Rikers Island jail for an enforced detox. He was released on bail on February 1st 1979, with the bond paid for by Virgin records and his lawyer paid for in secret by Mick Jagger, according to John Lydon. Sid died the same day he was released, at midnight, from an overdose. As one of our heroes, this is Sid at his most tragic and vulnerable.

For Pistols' fans - make this and one of our original Jamie Reid art works part of your collection.

    DAVID STUDWELL

David Studwell is a contemporary British artist and print maker who studied at Central St Martins School of Art. Having worked as an artist for over 20 years, Studwell harnesses the spirit of the sixties and seventies, the cult of celebrity and the legacy of Warhol to produce iconic screen prints.

His works explore the darker side of fame, nostalgia and Americana - police mug shots of well known stars show them at their most vulnerable, or at their most defiant. Private moments of icons at screen tests or during reflection become graphically public, produced in bold and vivid colours.

Studwell’s work also tracks the legacy of photography, technology and photographers in the 20th century. He has worked with famous photographer Terry O’Neill and Sir Elton John to create ‘Elton John: Home Run-Dodger Stadium 1975,’ a six colour screen print. The print is a re-working of Terry’s iconic photograph, capturing Elton at the height of his fame in 1975. Studwell also uses the advancement in technology to his advantage to add more sophistication and dynamic layers to his work. “It’s the technology that enables me to bring those images from the bygone eras into the present.”

His work has been collected by major celebrities including Kate Moss, Sheryl Crow and Nile Rogers. Studwell has also exhibited at numerous galleries in London as well as the USA and his work has featured in numerous magazines including GQ, Elle and World of Interiors.
