LOUISE MCNAUGHT

Louise McNaught is a contemporary British artist who exhibits internationally. She studied Fine Art at the University of Greenwich, graduating in 2012. Her work has since been shown in Milan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Stockholm, Brussels and the UK.

Louise art explores our fraught and destructive relationship with animals and nature. She works in a variety of media, with an emphasis on painting. Her work blends traditional technique with a bright discordant colour palette and unconventional use of materials. Her delicate, beautiful works often feature endangered animals, superimposed on unnatural bold backgrounds, fading away in fragments, or manifesting on fabricated materials such as the man made bank notes of their indigenous countries. Her animals appear God-like, sublime and ethereal: mythical beasts floating in a timeless void.

Louise work is influenced by Surrealism and Dali’s fragmented subjects, metamorphosing them until they are almost melting liquid forms. By subverting traditional representation she hints at darker consequences, yet paradoxically endows the animals with an elevated status.

In 2018 the book Survival was published by worldwide publishers Big Picture Press. This major publication features twenty of Louise’ paintings of endangered animal species, alongside facts about the animals plight and conservation. The book is sponsored by the charity tusk.org with all profits going to help their cause.
