Contemporary Art with a Rock n'Roll edge!
Mark Petty, known colloquially as "Petty" is a Contemporary British/Irish London based artist.
Following graduation from art school Petty has worked as a professional artist alongside an illustrious career as one of Britain's leading Art Directors and Graphic designers for 22 years. He has produced artwork for many of the world's Superbrands including the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Porsche and the NME.
Petty now works full time as an independent professional artist.
Conceptually Petty draws upon his vast experience in the creative industries; his artwork continues the legacy of Pop Art in the contemporary age, with an engaging high design aesthetic and immense technical skill.
Petty has formulated his own unique hand-pulled screen printing technique. This involves screenprinting in reverse directly onto multiple sheets of glass, incorporating gold gilding, hand painting, hand applied Diamond Dust and Gold leaf.
Due to the complex technical processes involved and the hand worked nature of the pieces, all artworks are unique: either produced as a small limited edition/series of works based on an original image or as a stand alone piece. No two works are alike.
All works are illustrated and hand-printed/painted by Petty himself on the highest quality archival acid free paper, recycled paper or ultra-clear glass. All works are signed and editioned in pencil on paper, or in permanent marker behind the glass and on the back of the frame, all works come with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
Petty's work has a very strong environmental focus. His recent Ocean Life Limited Edition series showcases artworks made entirely of recycled material or up-cycled waste plastic from the Oceans. All resin and paint pots are blended and incorporated in the works, whilst glass is locally sourced and frames are made by the artist in collaboration with onetreeplanted.org, neutralising the carbon for every frame made. A percentage of every sale goes towards the ‘Surfers against Sewage’ charity.
As a PADI certified diver, surfer, kite boarder and Ocean lover, in his own words:
